A Thanksgiving Prayer

I always think of this William S. Burroughs poem around Thanksgiving time.

Look what I made!

It's a paper Link!

I downloaded the zipped .jpg, imported it into Word so I could make sure the size was right, then printed it out on card stock. I cut out the pieces with an X-acto knife.

The only glue I could find in the house was carpenter's glue, but since it is a little thicker and sticker than white glue, it worked great. I applied it with a pipe cleaner.

I used a black pen to fill in the white spaces left on the eyes by the seams. It was pretty straightforward to make, taking about two hours to finish.

Here is a hyperlink to the paper Link if you want to try one yourself.

There tons of other fantastic paper models for download. Below are a few blogs that deal with paper modeling.

TN Renaissance Festival

This weekend I took a little jaunt down to Triune for the 2007 Tennessee Renaissance Festival. I had a great time. Aiden, my son, decided that he needed be outfitted as an elven archer. We walked around the festival grounds picking out a Robin Hood-style hat, a toy long bow, and of course, latex elf ears. He looked great.

After we got the ears, I began to notice how many other people had them on. Everywhere were pointy ears and fairy wings. I smiled. It seemed like the "normal" world was turned on its head. This was a place ruled by the eccentric and creative. Regular people were the ones that looked odd. It was a strange and beautiful thing.

Then I looked down at my t-shirt and shorts. Shit! I was in the uniform of the enemy. I was too afraid of what others would think to enjoy this. I was trying to live vicariously through Aiden's elf ears. Next time, I will have ears of my own, badges of weird honor.

Why PASSION is so critically important to happiness.

I can across this blog post in my web surfing. I think it identifies an important element that I have allowed to disappear from my life. Now the big question is how to get it back.

"Messy desks are the vivid signatures of people with creative, limber minds"

I have been trying to tell everyone this for years.
